The next PMO Flashmob takes place on Thursday 31st July at Citibank at Canada Square in Canary Wharf. Doors open at 6pm with the Live PMO Debating Society starting at 6.15pm.
The Live PMO Debating Society opens with:
THIS HOUSE BELIEVES PMOs ARE IN DECLINE
The first decade of the 2000s saw the PMO as a concept become a prominent feature in organisations where projects were used to deliver change. With both permanent and temporary PMOs; from project support offices, where staff supported project managers and project teams to the introduction of portfolios, PMO became the must-have to ensure successful delivery.
Today, PMOs regularly come into conflict with areas of the business; ‘PMO police’, ‘checklist charlies’, ‘underpaid and underskilled’, ‘unneccessary overhead’ are just some of names levelled at the PMO.
Some go further and disband the PMO function completely arguing that it adds no real value.
Has the PMO had its day? Is it time to radically overhaul what the PMO is and what it does? Is there even a need for a PMO anymore?
