PMO Mini-Masterclass – The PMO and Resource Management

Ask anyone that works within a PMO, regardless of the type, size or location, and the main challenge they are facing in their PMO is resource management.

The role of the PMO in resource management can be vast. It can range from resource utilisation and the need for timesheeting; it can include resource capacity and allocation; advanced techniques like demand management; forecasting and modelling; and let’s not forget the role of the centre of excellence PMO in having responsibility for increasing project managers capability through skills development and training.

Not only is the subject vast, it’s also complicated.

Where should a PMO start with providing services around resource management?

How should the PMO work with stakeholders to ensure resource management objectives are met?

What skills do people within the PMO really need when it comes to providing a resource management service?

In this evening’s PMO Mini-Masterclass, we thought it was time to start the conversations and learning specifically around the challenges PMO face in their role in resource management.

Paul is the founder of Program Framework and has over 20 years’ experience in managing performance and delivering strategic change, primarily in multinational corporations. We approached Paul to talk about this subject for a number of reasons.

One, he knows what he’s talking about and I’m sure you’re going to like the way he tackles this subject.

Two, he is going to take us through the four stages of PMO involvement in resource management and give practical insights into how to tackle these in the workplace.

Three, Paul, along with Program Framework, has a focus on a resource management specific tool which got rave feedback from delegates at the recent PMO Conference and at the Gartner PPM Summit, in London. As a community we need to explore how technology can help us overcome the challenge of effective resource management in our project organisations.



The Location

The PMO Mini-Masterclass on Resource Management takes place at a really special venue for us.

It will be held in The Old Library at The Lloyd’s Building at One Lime Street in the City, London. It’s an iconic building (you might recognise it from the front of the PRINCE2 manual!) and this is an opportunity for you to not only learn more about resource management in your PMO but also see this wonderful building from the inside.

The evening takes place on Thursday 26th November, 6pm for networking and food. We will start the session at 6.30pm.

There will be short breaks before the session ends at 9pm.
