Pizza and Beer

Another hot night in London, another gathering of the pmo flashmob. Loads of different discussions going on but the one which always amazes me is the reliance big organisations have on MS Excel for reporting! Having said that, software is not always the silver bullet – we also had conversations about the impact introducing new software has on the project managers.

We also talked about the reluctance some organisations have on hiring PMO practitioners if they don’t have a certain sector or domain experience. “What a load of tosh!” was the general feeling. PMO practitioners focus on supporting the PM and organisation to manage projects better – it doesn’t matter if they don’t have banking experience or IT or public sector. What they need is project management understanding and knowledge – and the ability to work with the people to make changes that stick.

There was loads of other themes and topics up for discussion – but “what’s said at pmo flashmob, stays at pmo flashmob”

Come along to the next one in August if you want to chat PMO with other likeminded folk
