The Art of the Possible – Thursday 21st Jan 2021

We’re kicking off 2021 with a success story in the most extraordinary of times. Think of all the businesses who have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and you’ll hard push to top the aviation industry. With 9 out of every 10 flights grounded during the first lockdown, the knock-on effects to airports, cargo, holidays and the thousands of businesses which rely on flights, it’s fair to say it was devastating. In this evening’s session, we’re delighted to have Kirsty Bennett join us. Kirsty is the Vice President of Transformation at Virgin Atlantic and she shares a great story ...

Working Through PMO Behaviours

To be competent in our PMO roles we need knowledge, experience and skills. The fourth component – often overlooked – is behaviour. Behaviour is “observable activity of how one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others.” In other words, we can see different types of behaviour in others and they can see it in us. An example in PMO might be: Taking ownership of tasks and complete promptly, keeping the customer up to date of progress and task completion. We can see that the PMO Analyst is taking ownership because they’re carrying out the work and completing it – and ...

What We Learnt About Ourselves in 2020 – A Lessons Learnt Technique

In this article we’re not delving too far into what PMO professionals have learnt about themselves in 2020 – it’s more about a session we ran just before Christmas at our virtual party in Qube. We had chance to do a short retrospective – hopefully that’s something you’ll also be doing too to uncover the many lessons we’ve learnt over the last extraordinary year. Using a virtual world like Qube allowed us to gather around a whiteboard to use a specific technique to help draw out what we’ve learnt during 2020 about ourselves. The technique – called LearnBySharing™ – is ...

Emotional and Personal Intelligence for PMO Professionals

We had a special event on Thursday 1st October to mark the Major Projects Association conference fringe which focused on events featuring emotional intelligence. We were delighted to have Geoff Crane join us to lead the session and it’s through Geoff’s work at The Trent University Emotion and Health Research Laboratory (EHRL) in Peterborough, Ontario that we were able to bring a brilliant PMO focused session to you. Emotional and Personal Intelligence You’re likely familiar with Emotional Intelligence (EI), a constellation of abilities that allows us to make good decisions when confronted with emotional information. PMO Competency Framework Review – Managers and Directors

After three years in the making, the PMO Competency Framework will be launched in early 2021. Driven by the countless conversations about the lack of a competency framework and assessment available to the people who work in PMOs, PMO Flashmob took action. Kicking off in 2017 we crowdsourced knowledge and experience from the PMO Flashmob community. Over 68 of you globally got involved in the initial writing activity to start to bring the PMO Competency Framework to life. Over months we worked away, holding a writing weekend away, hosting a PMO Flashmob event to keep getting those insights. We’ve worked ...

It’s that time of year again when we take a look into the possibilities and opportunities in the PMO world this year. We’ve been doing these articles for a couple of years and we don’t tend to be too far out. Take last years for example: Last year’s predictions – obviously made at a time when we had no idea what was going to hit us in March 2020 [full article here] BOTS start to become a new member of the PMO team – focused on the mundane, repetitive tasks, it’s not changing our world, just making us think about ...
