This session is all about the PMO supporting the organisation’s move to delivering programmes.
Encouraging levels of senior management engagement and success in project delivery is very often underpinned by consistent governance and methods established and maintained by the PMO. Buoyed by this success, it may seem a simple step to expand this governance and method to programme delivery, but how straightforward is this step and what are the potential pit falls?
Somebody who knows first-hand is Rod Sowden, he was a pioneer of transformation programme management in the late 90’s in the BBC, before setting up Aspire Europe as a dedicated niche programme management consultancy back in 2003 to share his experiences. This led him on a journey that included being the lead author for MSP® in 2007 and 2011, and on the way he designed version 2 of P3M3® in 2008 as the lead author and jointly led the authoring of the 2015 version. Rod has helped many organisations develop their programme management delivery capability.
- the new perspectives required from senior management (sponsoring a programme rather than a project),
- insight into the critical roles (including the role of the Business Change Manager),
- additional skills and capabilities required of the delivery team (can all project managers become programme managers?)
and, most importantly from our perspective, how the PMO can make it a success.
The evening starts with arrivals from 6pm, main session takes place at 6.30pm with an 8pm finish.
This session will be mostly presentation led with some interaction with the speaker and audience.
It’s also PMO Flashmob’s fourth birthday so we’ll be celebrating that too 🙂 so in PMO Flashmob style we’ll head to a local bar for a birthday drink afterwards.

Rod Sowden was the P3M3 lead author for the 2008 version and joint lead author of the 2015 version. He has been one of the most influential figures in the P3M assurance industry over the last few years. He was the lead author for MSP 2007 and 2011; the de-facto guide on programme management. He has made a major contribution to understanding and improving organisational performance from his design and development of the P3M3 maturity model which has been adopted globally. He is also the founder of Aspire Europe Ltd, which is the leading P3M organisation, offering accredited assessments, training and consultancy.
